In informal conversations that take place on the Internet and in text messaging, common words and phrases are often abbreviated for ease of typing. Due to the limited keypad features of cell phones, text messaging is even more notorious for having such abbreviations. In fact, many of the abbreviations were only invented for use in text messaging. This list is by no means complete, as nearly any phrase can be deemed with abbreviating by someone, but this list does attempt to cover all of the common abbreviations. Many of these abbreviations are not widely used, so using them may confuse some. The list is divided into two groups: the essential list, which covers all of the essential abbreviations that come up almost all the time, and the complete list that contains all of the abbreviations in common use.
